COMPOSITION FOR ARTISTS

BY PHIL DAVIES

Here's the official trailer, for this course, from the ArtTutor members site:

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Most artists only think about the content of their drawings and paintings. Is it going to be a portrait, and of whom? A landscape, and where from?

But it's not the content that has the biggest influence on how interesting and engaging your piece of art will be. It's the way that content is presented.

And that is what composition is all about! In this course, you'll learn a set of principles for creating compelling compositions. With dozens of examples from both art and photography, you'll see what makes a striking image and why. By the end of 15 short lessons, you'll have a mental checklist that will take the mystery and guesswork out of composing your next masterpiece!

Just finished this course Phil and it's great. I've read quite a lot about composition and have tried to apply the principles but most are too complex for me so I like this simple approach with clear examples a lot. I have one small suggestion how about a printout in the materials section of the key elements and principles to put next to me when I'm next composing a painting? I've written them down for now.

Wow Phil!  I just KNEW there was something more I needed to learn and this was it. I am going to go through my photographs with a new eye.  Thank you so much. You're a great instructor!

This is brilliant Phil and best of all, IT ALL MAKES SENSE.  A lot to remember for someone like me who can't wait a second to get slapping on the paint, but I certainly will bare this advice in mind before starting any painting in the future.
